Why Sustainability Is Important at Bay Cities

April is Earth Month, and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate than by showing why protecting our planet should be a top priority for everyone in 2024 — and how investing in sustainability is vital to the effort.

In this blog, we’ll take a closer look at why sustainability matters and how we’re keeping sustainability front and center at Bay Cities.

The Sustainability Imperative

Earth is the only home we’ve got and its resources are limited. That’s where sustainability comes in. It means conserving more resources and polluting less. It is the only way we can achieve the critical goal of safeguarding our environment.

Sustainability is also essential for good business. According to research, a whopping 78% of consumers think sustainability is important, while 84% say that inadequate environmental strategies detrimentally impact their impression of a brand.

The good news? People and businesses can embrace sustainability in many ways, including sustainable packaging. If you think switching to sustainable packaging is too expensive, think again. The pros far outweigh the cons of making the change. Not only is pricing more stable because eco-friendly packaging materials are renewable, but shipping costs are also lower thanks to the streamlined design. Packaging that is lightweight, compact, and “right-size” costs less to ship and dispose of. For e-commerce businesses, this can significantly reduce operating costs and carbon footprint.

The additional benefits of sustainable business practices, like sustainable packaging, are more challenging to quantify but equally compelling. With consumers more than ever interested in supporting companies that support the environment, sustainable practices can be a major selling point.

A Leader in Sustainability: As Featured on Viewpoint with Dennis Quaid

The packaging industry is constantly changing. Driven by a commitment to innovation, the Bay Cities Packaging & Design team has not only navigated these changes over the years but continues to lead the way. While many exciting things are happening in packaging now, none are as exciting — or important — as sustainability.

But making sustainable packaging is just the start. Sustainability is integrated into our business practices in many ways here at Bay Cities, including using our steam-powered corrugator, the Bay Cities Green Program, water-based adhesives and inks, and our Lifecycle of a Box initiative.

We’re proud to say that we’ve been widely recognized for our sustainability efforts with multiple sustainability certifications and a feature on a recent episode of Viewpoint with Dennis Quaid highlighting everything we’re doing to stay on the cutting edge of the sustainability movement.
