This past weekend, Bay Cities celebrated Bay Day, our company’s birthday. Bay Day is an opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come since our founding in 1956. For 69 years, Bay Cities has stood out in the world of industrial packaging, retail packaging and in-store displays by staying true to our core: innovation, sustainability, and 100% employee ownership.
As we closed our fiscal year at the end of June, we’re taking a look back at some of the milestones that made this past year one to remember.
We Took Home Top Honors
Creativity is in our DNA – and this year, our award-winning design team was recognized with three OMA Awards, including one Gold and two Silvers, plus a Sustainability Award for pushing the limits of what merchandising can be. Additionally, we were honored with a Progressive Grocer Impact Award in Sustainability/Resource Conservation, underscoring our commitment to innovation that’s not just eye-catching but environmentally responsible.
We Expanded Our Footprint – And Reduced Our Environmental Footprint
To serve our partners even better, we launched Digital Print Partners, North America’s first fully automated digital print facility for packaging and displays. We also opened a new office in Cincinnati, growing our Midwest presence and strengthening our coast-to-coast reach.
Furthermore, staying true to our commitment to minimizing our environmental impact, we launched efforts this year to measure and manage our emissions across Scopes 1, 2, and 3. We are proud to reveal that our dedication to sustainable practices and transparent reporting revealed our Scope 1 and 2 emissions are lower than those of industry peers.
We Brought the Industry Together at Winning@Retail
This spring, we hosted our biannual Winning@Retail conference in Redondo Beach, CA, bringing together top minds in retail, packaging, and shopper marketing. The event, which one attendee described as “one of the best programs I’ve attended in years,” delivered real insights and actionable strategies for navigating today’s rapidly evolving retail landscape.
From powerhouse panels like Mastering Walmart and Brand Power to candid keynotes with thought leaders like Garry Ridge (former CEO of WD-40) and Steve Frenda (Inspiring-Retail) and Peter Adderton (Mobile/MobileX Founder), Winning@Retail reminded us that, when strategy, storytelling, and execution come together, retail wins.
We Showed Up for Our People – and Our Community
Our culture as a 100% employee-owned company sets us apart — and we live it every day. This year, we brought our employee owners together for the always-spirited ESOP Olympics, our annual company picnic, and our “national holiday” Halloween, where creativity (and costumes!) take center stage. These festivities served as a reminder that we work hard but also play hard together.
When wildfires struck our hometown of Los Angeles, our team acted fast, assembling and distributing donated items and essential kits filled with blankets, socks, masks, activities, pet food, bowls, and leashes. We also donated to Disaster Relief - Habitat For Humanity of Greater Los Angeles to help our community and displaced people and pets.
We Showed Up for Our People – and Our Community
As we celebrate our 69th birthday, we’re more energized than ever to keep pushing what’s possible in the industry. We remain committed to innovation, sustainability, and our belief that when we win, we win together, as owners.
Thank you to our incredible employee owners, clients, and partners who made this past year possible. Here’s to many more years to come.
