PICO RIVERA, CA, Dec. 5, 2019: Bay Cities donated over 1,000 corrugated boxes to be filled with Christmas dinner ingredients, gifts and treats in preparation for the annual Christmas Baskets for the Needy to be held at Pico Community Park on Saturday, December 7, 2019. Baskets will be distributed to community members who are affected by food scarcity. In honoring this annual Bay Cities holiday tradition, volunteers will help in distribution of baskets, sorting of food, registration and check-in, toy distribution, and crowd control.
Bay Cities supports the annual event with donated packaging and the company’s ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) committee and other employee volunteers who help coordinate donations and delivery in conjunction with the City of Pico Rivera.
The event starts with a kick-off presentation at Pico Park at 8AM. From there, the families will head to a designated distribution location to pick-up their assigned box and basket until 2PM. The requirements to receive a gift box are proof of residence in Pico Rivera and appropriate paperwork for their children.
The Christmas Baskets for the Needy started over 25 years ago and now helps more than 1,100 families every year. Other events sponsored throughout the year include Stamp Out Hunger, a nation-wide initiative with the United States Post Office, and Trick-o-Treat, where non-perishable goods are collected for needy families.
Bay Cities has provided boxes and assistance with this event for the past 21 years.
